Inspiration for 2013

by Lyn Foley on December 20, 2012

I have enjoyed a break  from jewelry making since Thanksgiving. Now it is time for me to get back to work. My first show of 2013 is January 26th, and I’ll need almost every day between now and then to make enough new designs to begin my new year.  This head start will allow time to make “extra” creations to carry me through my steady schedule once it begins anew.

What inspires me? How do I think of new designs? I’m a luck ducky, since my artistic brain seems to be inspired by almost anything, and ideas pop up constantly. For example, I recently attended a gem and jewelry show to purchase findings (those bits and pieces I use to put the jewelry together: wire, earring posts, earring wires, tiny spacer beads, etc.). Bought those, but some fantastic gemstones and other beads stopped me in my tracks. The colors, the patterns, the shapes, ah, my brain went wild with ideas for new jewelry!

I bought as many strands of those fantastic, different, interesting gemstones as I could. Since then I’ve been creating and creating, making necklaces – and strangley for me, not using much of my lampwork glass. Who knew? I will put these treasures into the Gallery at Round Top.

I was also inspired by other beads, such as blue quartz (?). It looks like sea glass – I’m not sure what it is, but I’ll use it with some of my  glass beads. That strand will be completed soon. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think of the new ideas. Do you like these big chunky designs? The sea glass and glass? Pictures below of what’s in the works.

I  hope you are inspired to do your best work, whatever it is. May the holidays and occasions you celebrate here at the end of one year and the beginning of a new one be filled with love and togetherness.
