Bead Soup Inspiration

by Lyn Foley on February 22, 2013

My soup beads from Eva Sherman arrived a while back (time is flying, as usual). The strand of ancient Roman glass beads is especially amazing. Think about the fact that those beads are over over 900 years old!   I’ve kept them out on my workbench, looking and touching. Finally I unstrung them, gently cleaned them, and bingo, ideas started popping. I’ve made some glass beads of my own to “go with” – so we shall see what transpires.  Sometimes the jewelry I create almost makes itself. Other times I string something, then take it apart and start over again or yet again. One necklace, however, using  my soup has already designed itself.  I’ll be posting photos of what finally evolves in March.

I rarely work on only one project at a time. In the last two weeks I have also created  thirteen bracelets, a group of shawl pins, four long necklaces, four disk pendant style necklaces, and several bubble necklaces. Two of the shawl pins are shown below. They and the other pins I made are now for sale at Yarnorama, a fabulous yarn shop in Paige, Texas. (The store  offers wonderful temptation for my other love, fiber. After dinner,  when the light is too low for my dear eyes to see jewelry and bead details clearly enough, I knit and crochet.)
